Precise Sawing Aluminum Alloy Plates /Medium-Thick Plate
Medium-thick aluminum plates (typically ranging from 6mm to 50mm in thickness) are widely used in industrial manufacturing due to their favorable strength-to-weight ratio and excellent adaptability to processing. When the manufacturing process begins with precise sawing, the material properties of the plate directly impact processing efficiency, cost, and final part quality. Therefore, understanding the inherent attributes of the plate is the first crucial step.
1. The 5xxx series (Al-Mg alloys) are non-heat-treatable alloys, with their properties primarily achieved through strain hardening.
Representative Grades: 5052, 5083
Key Characteristics:
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance, particularly to marine atmosphere and seawater, making them classic "marine-grade" alloys.
Formability: Good plasticity and moderate strength, suitable for bending, stamping, and other forming operations.
Weldability: Good weldability using common arc welding methods.
Machinability (Sawing): Tend to produce chips that break away cleanly during cutting, with a lower tendency to adhere to tools. This generally results in a stable sawing process and a clean cut edge.
Common Applications:
Marine and shipbuilding components
Vehicle bodies and tanks
Architectural panels
Electronic chassis and enclosures requiring good corrosion resistance
2.The 6xxx series (Al-Mg-Si alloys) are heat-treatable. They can achieve significantly higher strength through solution heat treatment and aging (e.g., T6 temper).
Representative Grades: 6061, 6082
Key Characteristics:
Strength & Toughness: Offer an excellent combination of strength and toughness among commonly used wrought aluminum alloys, making them one of the most widely used structural alloys.
Machinability: Possess outstanding overall machinability. They perform excellently in sawing, milling, drilling, and other operations, often producing a good surface finish.
Anodizing Response: Respond very well to anodizing, producing a durable and aesthetically pleasing oxide coating suitable for both decoration and enhanced wear resistance.
Weldability: Fair weldability, though generally considered slightly inferior to the 5xxx series.
Common Applications:
Frames and bases for automation equipment
Robotic structural components
Precision instrument parts
Mold bases, jigs, and fixtures
